By Jeff King

Durham Trophy - Saturday 7th September 2024

Chester-le-Street United Reserves 1 v 1 Winlaton Community Seniors

After 90 Minutes - Winlaton Win 5 - 4 on Penalties

Colin Wotherspoon's Post Game Analysis.

"This week a depleted reserve side with only 12 fit players were on cup duty in the Durham Trophy against Northern Alliance outfit Winlaton Community Seniors."

"In a game that could of went either way it eventually went in the favour of the visitors by way of penalty kicks 4-5 after the two sides were level 1 - 1 after 90 minutes."

"Both halves were even in terms of chances created although I felt we had more possession without dominating our opponent, Winlaton scored late in the first half when we switched off at the back post and 3 CLSU players left the lad unmarked."

"To be fair to him he finished well when given the opportunity. 1-0 down at the break we asked the lads to pick up the tempo and make better decisions in the second half."

"On 65 minutes we got ourselves back in the game when Jude Anderson found himself unmarked in the box after good play from Joe Sykes and Jude did the rest to get us back 1-1."

"The last 20 minutes both teams had a go without either side looking likely to win the game in 90 minutes."

"So we went to penalty’s and to be fair to both teams all 9 penalties scored were of a decent level. The only one missed was when our scorer in the game Jude Anderson smashed his penalty against the underside of the bar."

"The referee deciding the ball bounced on the line! So it wasn’t to be in the end, Winlaton went through 5-4 on penalties and we wished them well in the next round."
