Good Point Away For Depleted Reserves

by Jeff King (With A Huge Nod To Colin Wotherspoon)

Wearside League Division 1 - Saturday 8th March 2025 Belmont United 1 v 1 Chester-le-Street United Reserves

United's reserves went into this game with players missing from the previous weeks so they had to bring in 2 of their under-18 lads who had played earlier in the day.

United competed really well with this much younger than normal group and had chances to maybe have took all 3 points over the 90 minutes.

There was nothing between both sides in the game until Belmont latched onto a loose pass outside the United box from Matty Henderson and punished Chester by going 1-0 in front.

United showed great character by reacting instantly forcing the Belmont keeper into a superb save within minutes of going 1 - 0 down and then a minute later Chester got level from a great strike from Harvey Lawrence.

Second half it could have gone either way with both teams having opportunities.

In the end it was a good point for United's young lads.

Special mention to Ethan Connelly who came on for the last 25 minutes at 16 years old he did not look out of place. Thanks to Anthony Johnson and Micky Barron for the work they have done with him in Chester's under 18s.

United are hopeful they will have players back next week as they travel to Barnard Castle who are sitting second top of the table in what will be a tough challenge for the young reserve side.
