The league leaders face another very tough game this Saturday afternoon when they travel to 7th placed Wolviston for a 14:30pm kick off at Metcalfe Park.
Wolviston are actually unbeaten in league play since losing 5 - 0 at home to Gateshead Leam Rangers on the 18th September 2021. Since then they've won eight and drawn four of their league games.
With several games in hand they are hopeful that a late run could carry them into the top four of the division. There current run is three successive league wins, the latest coming in midweek at Norton & Stockton Ancients Youth 3 - 2. A game where they came from two goals down to score three times in the last 20 minutes.
Add in that they've made four Cup semi-finals and have won six cup games in all competitions with 5 losses, two on penalty shoot-outs and it can be seen that this is a side that deserves credit and plaudits for their season so far.
Their league record shows 13 wins, 5 draws and 7 defeats with 68 goals scored and 50 conceded for 44 points. A very respectable total and one that shows how much of a threat/danger they will be to United in this weekend's fixture.
Leading marksman for Wolviston is striker Michael McGee who has 34 goals in only 21 appearances. Wide midfield man Jake Stott has 26 goals in 31 appearances and from the same number of appearances attacking midfielder Nathan Bayes has netted 22 times.
Wolviston certainly have the firepower to trouble each and every Wearside League side they've faced. This is the first time these two sides have met and United need to be focused, committed and ready to go when game time comes around.
