by Jeff King

The top local Cup competition for Durham's senior football Clubs comes to The Riverside on Wednesday 11th September with the visit of Vanarama National League Hartlepool United to take on United's First Team.

The Durham FA 'Frank Pattison' Challenge Cup 1st Round clash will be a huge test for United's youngsters who will take on a professional outfit who play in the Division just below he English Football League Division 2.

Hartlepool arrive sitting 7th in their league having 13 points from 8 games following a win away at Boston United 2 - 1 on Tuesday night meaning it's now five games unbeaten at that level for the Teesside outfit.

What squad and line-up they bring to Chester-le-Street will be interesting having just played 24 hours previously. But one thing is for sure they'll be wanting to progress and not allow United the big scalp a shock win would give them.

For United it's a wonderful opportunity to build on two great away wins in a row in the Ebac Northern League Division 2. At the same time it's a nice way to mark their return to action at The Riverside in what is arguably the biggest competitive game in The Club's short history.

A big crowd is expected for an intriguing and exciting game that kicks-off at 19:30pm with payment on the door via card or cash.
