Match Preview : Home v Sunderland RCA - Ernest Armstrong Second Division Cup - Tuesday 17th December

by Jeff King

Sunderland Ryhope Colliery Association, 'RCA' make the short journey across the city to The Ford Quarry Hub for Tuesday's clash in the 'Second Division' cup looking for revenge over United.

Way back at the beginning of August United travelled to Meadow Park and came away with their first League win of the season, 2 - 1 with goals from Addis Dore and Stephen Siyanbola in a fiery match that saw the hosts have two players sent-off.

Since then RCA who had been relegated from the First Division at the end of the previous season have struggled in the league as they look to rebuild The Club after that costly relegation.

They are currently 19th in the table with 22 points from 26 games made up of 6 wins, 4 draws and 16 losses. They've scored 30 goals and conceded 56 and are currently on a run of only one win in their last 13 games.

That win did however come last Saturday when they won at Grangetown Boys Club 3 - 2 in a real scrap at the bottom of the table. Their four draws have also come in those last 13 games including a 2 - 2 effort against leaders Horden.

Their top marksmen are Dan Maw with 6 goals, George Pinder with 5 and ex-Park View Academy and United forward Jackson Ward with 4.

United meanwhile got back to winning ways last Saturday with a very hard-fought 1 - 0 win at Alnwick Town thanks largely to keeper James Hughes and the defence that was excellently led by Man of the Match, skipper Dylan Wilkinson.

Two big contributions coming from Alex Clark on debut who had to come on and play at Centre Back following the injury to Riley Everett and Kobe Bewicke who came on as a second half substitute for Nathan Conroy.

Kobe has returned to these shores for a while following his first season in the US Collegiate system and United's top scorer from last season marked his return with a magnificent strike to give United all three points.

With Stephen Siyanbola back from suspension and Riley Everett possibly out through injury the starting XI is going to be an interesting conundrum for Head Coach Micky Nelson.

The game kicks of at 7:45pm and not 7:30 pm as advertised on The Northern League website.
