It’s The Isuzu FA Vase Challenge Cup Day 2nd Round Qualifying for United at The Ford Hub on Saturday with the visitors being FC Hartlepool.
This should be a cracking tie with the two sides, on paper, pretty evenly matched. FC sit 12th in the table and United currently in 10th position. The sides met as recently as August 17th in the League down in Teesside with FC Hartlepool winning 1 - 0.
FC Hartlepool actually played in the 1st Qualifying Round of The Vase and had a very good 4 – 0 away win at Sunderland RCA to make it to The Hub and this 2nd Qualifying Round tie. So, it’s all to play for today.
In United's two previous excursions in The Vase, we’ve gone out both times in the first game meaning this could be third time lucky if we finally win a game in this prestigious competition.
Our first season in The Vase saw us lose 3 – 1 at home at The Riverside to Newcastle University and last season we went out again at The Riverside on penalties to Blyth Town after drawing 1 – 1 after 90 minutes.
Kick-off as ever is at 15:pm and a reminder that should today’s game end in a draw after 90 minutes then it’s straight to penalties to decide the victors. Let's see if we can get a good crowd to cheer The Lads on today.
