Match Preview : United @ Alnwick Town - Saturday 14th December 2024

by Jeff King

United travel as far North as they can in The Ebac Northern League on Saturday to historic Alnwick to take on Town. A team with 145 years of history in it's records and 'Hogwarts' Castle on it's doorsteps!

Alnwick returned to the Northern League this season and made a pretty good start to life in the Second Division that included a 5 - 0 thumping of United at The Ford Hub way back in August of this year.

Since then they've struggled a little bit and go into the return fixture with only 1 win in their last 7 League games leaving them in 18th position in the table. They've played 23 won 6 drew 5 lost 12 scored 30 and conceded 45 for 23 points. Their top scorers are both on 6 goals being Euan Potts and Max Anderson.

For United, last week's postponement meant they didn't have the opportunity to end a 3-game losing league streak after a terrific 10-game unbeaten run prior to that. So, they'll be looking to get back to winning ways and get revenge over their opponents.

Top scorer Stephen Siyanbola will once again be missing through suspension after the red card he received following two yellows in the Brooks Mileson Memorial League Cup.

However, United may well be boosted by the return to the squad of last season's top scorer Kobe Bewicke who is home from the USA for Christmas and there may also be a promotion to the first team squad for recent signing Alex Clark.

The game at the other St. James Park kicks off at 3:00pm.
