It's Ebac Northern League Division 2 leaders Horden CW who visit The Ford Hub today to provide really tough opposition for United. On the back of two successive defeats Horden are perhaps the worst visitors United could have!
The Marras went top last Saturday when they won the only game played in the Division. That was a 2 - 1 away win over Sunderland West End here at The Ford Hub so the surface won't faze them today.
In The League CW are on an incredible run. Unbeaten in 19 games with 15 wins and 4 draws. It was the balmy days of Summer when they last lost. That was a 2 - 0 defeat at Chester-le-Street Town.
Since then it's been all guns a-blazing from the division's top scorers that have consistent marksman Jack Pounder leading their line with 14 goals. Then there's the likes of Dave Doughty, Philly Angus and Ben Henderson all in double figures.
A measure of their success, consistency and togetherness is that they have only 11 goal scorers sharing their 63 league goals in 23 games which have seen them amass 56 points. Probably the favourites to win the League in many eyes.
For us it's about consolidating our top 10 place and seeing if we can make a run at the play-off positions. A big ask but we know we can mix it with the best of them after our recent 10-match unbeaten run.
Stephen Siyanbola should be back together to boost our front line and 18-year-old Aussie winger/attacking midfielder Jet Fittolani has arrived to bolster our attacking options.
After two defeats it'll be interesting to see if Micky Nelson shakes up the side to try and get back to winning ways for Saturday's 3:00pm kick-off. Why not be there to see one of Division 2's most promising sides against one of the best. Should be good.
