Match Preview : United (Home) v Alnwick Town - Tuesday 27th August 2024

by Jeff King

United return 'home' to The Ford Quarry Hub for their fifth League encounter at their temporary abode after three games away on the road to face Division 2 new boys Alnwick Town.

The previous four games on the 3G have all ended in narrow defeats with only one goal scored so United will be looking to put that right and turn their home fortunes around.

Their opponents have made a solid start to their period in the Northern League after achieving promotion from the Northern Alliance League at the end of last season.

They've played eight won two drew two and lost four for eight points and a 17th position in the Division. Goals wise they've scored 11 and conceded 14. Chester are two places above them with a point more but they have also played one more.

United have only managed 6 goals this season but 2 of them helped them to a third win away from home last Saturday against Washington. They came from Addis Dore and a superb first for The Club from Harley Lawton.

Chester's performances this season have been impressive and their defence rock solid. They've only conceded nine goals and you have to go all the way up to 6th place in the League to find a better defensive record.

But those six goals also find them tied for the lowest scorers so far this season so it's clear what they need to address to move up the Division. It all points to another tight encounter which kicks off at the normal midweek time of 7:45pm.
