A huge game at the top of the Ebac Northern League Division 2 Table sees third placed Jarrow visit The Ford Quarry Hub to take on fifth placed Chester-le-Street United in a game where both teams are desperate for three points.
Jarrow are third in the Division with 76 points from 33 games and still very much in the title race chasing Yarm & Eaglescliffe and Horden C.W. They’ve had an excellent season under the astute leadership of ‘gaffer’ Kennie Malia.
They’ve won 24 drawn 4 and lost 5 in The League so far scoring 78 goals and conceding 26. Their last six League games have seen them win five and lose 1. Plus in midweek they defeated Redcar Town 4 - 0 in the Ernest Armstrong Cup
Top marksman for the Jarra Lads are ex-United striker Benji Shodeinde who has 22 league goals which includes 7 for Birtley Town in the First Division before he left to return to Jarrow where he started the season and Levi Collins who has 17, one of which was for Whickham in Division One.
Jarrow don’t just want the three points today to stay in touch at the top they’ll also want a modicum of revenge as back on 7th September 2024 we went to Perth Green CA when Jarrow were top of the table and came away with a 1 – 0 courtesy of a Stephen Siyanbola strike.
For United a 0 - 0 draw last week at lowly Bedlington Terriers felt like two points dropped and an opportunity to enhance their play-off position lost. Although with Thornaby, Esh Winning and Ryton all losing it was a better point than none at all.
The scene is set for what should be a cracking game between two of the Division's best footballing sides.
