Match Preview : United @ Home v Sunderland RCA - Saturday 18th January 2025 15:00pm - Ebac Northern League Division 2

by Jeff King

United's next opponents are Sunderland RCA who travel the short distance to The Ford Quarry Hub on Saturday to face United for the third time this season and looking for a far better result than the previous two.

United took all three points at RCA way back on the first Saturday in August in the first League clash between the two sides with a 2 - 1 win in an incident packed game. Stephen Siyanbola and Addis Dore being United's scorers.

Scott Ryan with the RCA goal from the penalty spot in a game that saw three players sent-off. Harvey Amoah and Callum Hughes for RCA and Harley Lawton for United.

Fast forward to just before Christmas and the two sides met again in the Ernest Armstrong Second Division Cup. This time Harley Lawton and Stephen Siyanbola gave United a 2 - 0 win with RCA once again having two men sent-off.

Both centre backs, ex-United player Harvey Rudd and his partner Simmi Tchounga being dismissed at the same time in the first half which certainly helped United to take the victory in the second half.

RCA will arrive in 20th place in the table having taken 24 points from their 29 games so far, scoring 35 goals and conceding 63. Their last six league games have seen them win 2 draw 2 and lose 2.

United on the other hand are on a terrific run that has seen them win 5 and draw one of their last six league games adding in that Cup win over RCA to make it seven games unbeaten.

A run that has seen them climb to 5th in the table and occupying the last promotion play-off place. So, both sides obviously need a win for different reasons meaning it will be a tough encounter for sure with no quarter asked or given.
