Chester-le-Street United bring down the curtain on their excellent and successful regular 2024/25 Ebac Northern League Division 2 campaign with a trip to Redcar Town on Saturday afternoon.
They do so knowing whatever the result they still have business to attend too having qualified for the end of season play-off semi-finals. Who they face and when will depend on the final day's results on Saturday.
If United win at Redcar they will finish 4th in the table and visit the side finishing 3rd which looks like being Jarrow at the moment but could be Yarm & Eaglescliffe at Billingham Town.
If United don't win and Thornaby do then United will finish 5th and will play the second placed team again either Jarrow or Yarm. Whatever the outcome it's an exciting and deserved end to the season for United's youngsters.
Redcar Town currently sit 17th in the table with 49 points from 41 games. They've won 14 drawn 7 and lost 20. They've scored 66 goals and conceded 80. A win for them and a loss by Chester-le-Street Town would give them a 16th placed finish.
They'll also be looking for revenge against a United side who back on the 2nd November last year defeated them 4 - 1 with goals from Ben Gallagher, Nathan Conroy from the penalty spot, Stephen Siyanbola and Charlie Loveday.
Redcar actually took the lead in that game inside the first two minutes with a goal from Mustapha Abdullah who is no longer with Town. Two players though that are and represent the biggest dangers to United though are.
Top scorer Connor Smith has 11 league goals and Josh Storr has eight. In all Redcar have had 25 different scorers for their 66-goal total which suggests two things. They are a threat all over the pitch and have had a heavy turnover of players.
Kick-off at Mo Mowlam Memorial Park is at 15:00pm for a game that United will be looking to win to take some momentum into their playoff game after defeat last time out at home against Boldon C.A.
