Match Preview : United @ Sunderland West End - Saturday 11th January 2025

by Jeff King

The second Ford Quarry Hub Derby of the season and it may well be one of perhaps only two games that survives the weather due to the artificial 3G surface. A chance for United to get revenge or for West End to complete the double?

Way, way, way back in July 2024 it was United's home match at The Hub that kicked off the season. The 'visitor's' that day coming away with a 2 - 1 win with goals from Adam McGuiness and Kyle Patton. Dan Walton replying late on for United.

Since then the fortunes of both teams have fluctuated with ebbs and flows that see United currently sitting in 7th place in the table with 50 points and on a run that has seen them win four and draw one of their last five League games.

West End meanwhile come into this game on the back of four games unbeaten. Three draws were followed by a 3 - 1 win at The Hub over Chester-le-Street Town last time out on December 28th.

So this is West End's first game of 2025 and their League record sees them comfortably mid-table in 12th place with 35 points coming from 10 wins, 5 draws and 14 defeats from their 29 games played.

They've scored 57 goals and conceded 77 with their top marksman being the prolific and always dangerous Craig Linsel who has 17 to his name. Taylor Ford being their next highest scorer with 6 goals.

Both teams know the surface and surroundings really well and should be at 'home' for what promises to be a very competitive game kicking off at 3:00pm.
