Back on the pitch after a fortnight's break, United have a vital game in the race for the Ebac Northern League Division 2 Play-Off places. Second-from-bottom Grangetown Boys Club come to The Ford Hub for the second time this season.
After winning 2 – 0 down at the B and W Lifting Stadium in the League back in October last year with goals from Stephen Siyanbola and Charlie Loveday United then knocked them out of the League Cup 2 – 1 at the end of January at The Hub with a Nathan Conroy double.
In their first season in The Northern League following their promotion from the North Riding League it’s been a real struggle for Grangetown. Currently they have 19 points from 38 games.
They’ve won 5 drawn 4 lost 29 scored 41 and conceded 104. Their top scorer is Dylan Gnalgo with 6 league goals and Tom Eglington has 5 in all competitions.
Since the League Cup tie they’ve played eight league games with one draw and seven losses. They did beat Washington 2 – 0 in the Second Division Cup recently meaning they are still in that competition.
United go into this game still in a Play-Off spot sitting 5th with 66 points. That’s two behind Esh Winning who play Horden at home today and one in front of Ryton & Crawcrook and Thornaby who face each other today.
On paper it looks as good an opportunity for United to consolidate their play-off spot particularly with the games their rivals face. But as we all know the game is played on a pitch and not on paper!
United need to focus on the task in front of them and not show any complacency. If they do that then they have every chance of making it another good weekend for The Club,
