Mint Result For Reserves After Eight Goal Performance

by Jeff King (With A Huge Nod To Colin Wotherspoon)

Wearside League Division 1 - Saturday 12th April 2025 Chester-le-Street United Reserves 8 v 0 Coxhoe Athletic

With Kymani Severin, Alex Clark and Riley Everett being called up to the Northern League Division 2 First Team squad and captain Ollie Dixon absent (driving test!) United were pleased to welcome back Matty Henderson from injury who has been a big player for this group this season.

Jack Wilson who has been out injured for a few weeks was also fit enough to return to the squad as United also brought in five 16 year olds from their under 18s squad.

Three of the 16 year olds started and finished the game with the other two helping us play the final 30 minutes with all five 16 year olds on the pitch. A massive testament and positive measure of the Park Academy/United project.

United started the game looking like they really fancied it today keeping good possession and moving the ball well and took the lead on 25 minutes.

Harvey Lawrence and Joe Sykes combined well to create two v one situation down our right hand side from which Lawrence delivered a perfect cross for Jude Anderson to send a bullet header past the Coxhoe keeper.

From there on in United totally dominated the game keeping possession with ease and moving our opponents all over the pitch. United's three central midfield players controlled the game in Henderson and the two impressive 16 year olds in Frankie Young and Ethan Connolly.

Henderson helping himself to two goals on his return plus two goals from Anderson and Wilson coming on from the bench, one from Evan Cubby and an Own Goal from a great cross from Leo Fasuan helped us to finish the game with eight goals that could of been more with the chances United created.

United with those eight goals passing the century mark in The League reaching 102 goals from only 30 games.

Colin Wotherspoon's Post Game Thoughts : Our last two games this young group of lads have scored an impressive 20 goals with 0 conceded.

It’s not just the amount of goals it’s also the quality of some of these have been great to watch, also the fact we are still producing very good performances.

When we bring in five 16 year olds like we did today it stands us and them in good stead for the future.
