Wearside League Division One - Saturday 15th February 2025 F.C. Hartlepool Reserves 1 v 4 Chester-le-Street United Reserves
United's Reserves went into todays game away v FC Hartlepool Reserves on a run of 5 unbeaten in the league since the turn of the year. The game was switched to 3G pitch as their home grass pitch was not playable.
The lads started the game again looking like the in form team moving the ball around the pitch well and creating good opportunity’s, After 15 minutes we lost Finn Cook through injury.
He was replaced with joe walls who slotted in at left full back and was excellent throughout the game.
United took the lead through the impressive Harvey Lawrence when after good build up play from the team the ball was played inside to Lawrence on the edge of the box.
He turned the defender and bent the ball superbly past the keeper into the bottom left hand corner to give United the lead their opening to the game so deserved
At this point United were now firmly on the front foot and the second goal came along soon after when brilliant work down the left hand side by Kymani Severin saw him deliver a quality cross into the back post.
It was met by the on rushing Matty Henderson who headed the ball back across the goal into the far corner to put Chester 2 - 0 in front. United did squander more chances just before the break but looked happy and in control going into the break with the two goal lead.
Early in the second half United went 3 - 0 up when a mix up in the Hartlepool defence resulted in the ball somehow ending up in the back of their net for an unfortunate own goal.
Hartlepool did pull a goal back shortly after against the run of play but a great finish from Olly Dixon restored our 3 goal advantage and the game finished 4-1 to the impressive United reserve lads.
Colin Wotherspoon's Post Game Thoughts
"Kymani Severin was a real handful today for Hartlepool with his pace and ability to run with the ball. Jude Anderson gave us a energy and a good focal point up top as well."
"the pleasing thing from today was that all 3 of our midfield players got on the scoresheet as this is something we have asked them to add to their game."
