Wearside League Division 1 - Saturday 16th November 2024
i2i International Soccer Academy 5 v 2 Chester-le-street United Reserves
Numerous injuries, suspensions including Head Coach Colin Wotherspoon, unavailability's and an early kick-off meant the Reserves were on the road with a makeshift depleted side led by Willie Donachie.
It resulted in a defeat for United's reserves as they switched places in the table with i2i and dropped to 6th in the League. Having said that an inspired performance from 'The Academy's' goalkeeper certainly helped keep United at bay.
Donachie's thoughts on the game were as follows.
"Reserves lost against a team with an outstanding goalkeeper. We were winning deservedly with an own goal that was created after a great team move and great cut back from Jude Anderson."
"At 1 - 0 we conceded a penalty which looked questionable where I was standing but was dispatched well."
"With only 11 fit players and no substitutes we couldn't afford any injuries but unfortunately during the game we picked up a number which disrupted our play and contributed to us going behind and being unable to come back."
"Harvey Lawrence scored a brilliant free kick which gave us a chance but our injuries hampered our play and we just didn't have enough on the day. However, it was a good learning experience for our young team."
