United Have Plenty In Reserve As They Make Cup Progress

by Jeff King (Thanks to Colin Wotherspoon)

Durham County FA Minor Cup 2nd Round - Saturday 12th October 2024

Chester-le-Street United Reserves 6 v 1 Hetton Juniors Seniors

Only 8 regular Reserves lads were available for United in this game through suspension’s and injury’s to others. This meant 3 of our United's under-18s to make up 11 fit/available all of whom had already played for the Under-18s in the morning.

Also full back Keane Mitchell was brave enough and committed to cause to actually start in goal with no other keeper available.

Despite this Chester showed good character to win 6-1 against a much older and big squad from Hetton and move into the 3rd Round of the Durham County FA Minor Cup.

United got off to a good start when Leo Fasuan put them 1-0 in front early in the game with a little help from the Hetton goal keeper. Harvey Lawrence soon made it 2-0 with a great strike inside the box.

2-0 soon became 3 when Kymani Severin was rewarded with his strong early performance putting us 3-0 in front and in full control of the game.

Hetton were awarded a disputed penalty just before the break and converted the spot-kick to make it 3-1 at the interval.

Into the second half and United started brightly playing some great football through the second 45 minutes coming through their 3 midfielders in Jack Barker, Fasuan and skipper Olly Dixon.

They also looked dangerous in the wide areas with Severin and young Harry Garvey on the right and Lawrence and Joe Sykes linking up well on the left.

Second half goals from the hard working Evan Cubby and a second goal for Fasuan and a brilliant over head strike from Dan Walton helped us to a very comfortable 6-1 victory which puts us into round three of the competition.
